I have gone with a Mk7 Fiesta, which is similar to the Mk6 that the J15 was designed for, but with a few changes. The main reason choosing the Mk7 was that I can get a wrecked one with low kms. So the running gear should be OK without a re-build. It also comes with VVT, electric power steering and a few other differences.
The first difference I struck was the drivers side engine mount, so a modified mount was made. First learning - I need to learn to weld, and a stick welder is not good enough. I'm not happy with the new engine mount, but I am leaving it for now in the hope that when I come back to it my skills will be better.
Next were the gear cables, which mount slightly differently. I got some Mk6 cables (and the brackets!) from a wreck to solve this issue.
Anyway, you get the idea, same but different. I am looking forward to some other surprises as I go along, but its all part of the journey.

Where to begin?
I needed a project - its called a mid-life crisis. Who would of thought Wikipedia would describe it so accurately? Anyway, a kit car was the path out of my crisis...but which one?
After some research I settled on the Sylva J15. I like the fact that it takes a current powertrain and that it is reasonably cheap (compared to landing other kit cars in Australia). Sylva had also been in business for a while which gave me some reassurance that they would survive between the deposit and the delivery. I would have liked an LMP styled car, but none of these could match the previously mentioned criteria as well as the J15 and the J15 retro styling is still pretty cool, so the choice was made.
As luck would have it, 2 others in Australia also ordered J15s and Riots at the same time, one of them organised the sea container and the order was placed.
That was some time ago now. So here is the story of the build - not sure how it will end, but hopefully the blog will bring inspiration to others struggling with their mid-life crisis.
